Type of Wireless network from A,B,G or N

Written By Unknown on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 | 5:28 AM

When you configure a wireless network, you have a wide choice of wireless technology or wireless networking standard that you want to use. Each wireless standard has various characteristics, such as speed and range. The way this technology works arranged by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the code name for the 802.11 wireless networking standard. This standard is basically a written document that describes how the IEEE wireless devices should operate. These documents help manufacturers to develop wireless products that will work with products from other manufacturers.
Because wireless networks have been developed and hold, then the IEEE has had several different wireless standards.

Understand wireless network alphabet

From the beginning until today is still growing, here is a wireless standard that has been created by the IEEE for wireless networking industry today:

1. 802.11a: This standard is little used, especially in the consumer market, but some computers bundled with dual-band wireless (802.11a / g). Although the standard is older than 802.11b (will be explained later), he has (or better) or equal to the maximum speed of 802.11g, which later became standard. 802.11a standard is the only one that uses a different frequency range (5 GHz, not 2.4 GHz), so use this standard means that you can not have a problem with interference from other networks almost as popular or more. However, due to high frequency, the signals from 802.11a products are generally not as far as that reached by signals from devices that use other standards.

2. 802.11b: This is the first wireless networking standard that is widely used in homes and businesses. This standard has now been replaced by 802.11g. If you buy a computer with an integrated (built-in) wireless or purchase wireless products before the first semester of 2003, the computer may use a 802.11b wireless component.

3. 802.11g: This is the most widely used standard today. This is similar to 802.11b, but is an improved version with a much greater speed of up to 54 Mbps. Products 802.11g standard is compatible with 802.11b, so you can mix the two devices in the same wireless network. Earlier 802.11a standard is incompatible with both this standard and did not even use the same frequency. If you buy a computer with integrated wireless product or bought after the first semester of 2003, the wireless components that tend to be used is the standard 802.11g.

4. 802.11n: A standard developed that is compatible with 802.11b and g products When this standard is completed, you may be able to get data rates up to 540 Mbps, which is ten times faster than existing standards. In addition, this product will have a longer range by using smart-antenna technology is strong, called Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO), which is already available on some wireless networking products. You can already buy products based on this technology is referred to as pre-n or 802.11n products. However, both your wireless router and computer must be compatible with 802.11n to all amenities.

How to Block Porn on your Computer without Software

Written By Unknown on Friday, March 12, 2010 | 5:19 AM

Unwanted images can crop up on your computer even with routine searches. To block pornographic material, many families have turned to software-based solutions. Software is expensive, requires updating and can be altered by computer-savvy children. Block porn and other harmful material from appearing on your PC and your home network by filtering all incoming Internet traffic before it reaches a computer.

Instructions

  1. Step 1

    Sign up for an account at opendns.com. DNS is a service that translates alphabetic web addresses into the numeric IP addresses your computer needs to connect to a website on another computer or server. Most ISPs (Internet Service Providers) designate a DNS service, but you can choose any service you want.

  2. Step 2

    If you don't have a router, go into your control panel on your Windows XP system and click on network connections. Select your connection and click on properties and then on Internet protocol (TCP/IP). Click on properties and select the radio button marked use the following DNS server address. In the preferred DNS server box put 208.67.222.222 and in the alternate DNS server box put 208.67.220.220 and press OK when you are finished.

  3. Step 3

    If you have a router, it is best to set the DNS settings on your router rather than on a computer. Routers filter the traffic before getting to your computer, which increases security. It also allows you to change settings one time, rather than on each computer on your network. Find the DNS preferences on your router and change them to 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 and save. You may need to reboot your router for the settings to update. Specific instructions for your router can be found on opendns.com.

  4. Step 4

    Select filter settings. Sign into your account on opendns.com and click on the settings section. Choose your desired level of filtering. To block porn and phishing (websites that attempt to gain your information through deception), select low. If you want to block pornography, phishing, adult sites and illegal activity, select moderate filtering. If you prefer to block all porn, illegal activities, video sites, social networking and time wasting websites, select high filtering. After selecting the radio button next to your desired filtering level, click apply.

  5. Step 5

    Block specific websites. If you have a specific website you always want to block, add it under manage individual domains. After you add the domain name to block, click add domain.

  6. Step 6

    Check settings. Wait two hours for your filtering and website blocking settings to be updated on opendns servers. After two hours, search for websites that should be blocked. You can search for general porn by putting free porn in a Google search and selecting one of the search results. If your settings are working properly, you should see a website that says: site blocked [website address] is not allowed on this network.

How to adjust your Window XP TCP Connection to boost your BT download speed?

Written By Unknown on Friday, February 26, 2010 | 1:01 AM

With the release of Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), it has limit the concurrent TCP connection to 10 connection per seconds.

With Service Pack 1 or without any service pack installed, your computer has no limit on the number of concurrent TCP connection.

Why Microsoft Windows Service Pack 2 (SP2) want to limit the number of TCP connection?
This is to reduce the speed of computer virus or worms spreading across the network.

How it affect the BT download speed?

BT tend to open a lot of outbound TCP connection at one time to download from different sources. With only 10 connection per second, it might reduce the BT download speed.

How do i know if my computer has reach the maximum TCP connection?
To know if you’re hitting concurrent TCP connection attempts limit, Go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer -> System, look for TCP/IP warning “TCP/IP has reached the security limit imposed on the number of concurrent TCP connect attempts”. It has the Event ID of 4226

How to adjust my Window XP TCP Connection to boost my BT download speed?
Just change the 10 tcp connection limit to 10,000. To change the limit on TCP connection in Windows XP SP2, you can use the following program that works on every language of Windows XP:-

Event ID 4226 Patcher version 2.23d
Website: http://www.lvllord.de/

You might want to back up the tcpip.sys, although the program has the ability to restore tcpip.sys to original state.

Once you change your TCP Connection number, restart the PC and now your BT download speed will be more better :)

Optimize Broadband & Dsl Connections and increase your internet speed

These settings allow you to boost the speed of your broadband Internet connection when using a Cable Modem or DSL Router with Windows 2000 and Windows XP.

Open your registry and find the key below.

Create the following DWORD values, as most of these values will not already exist you will need to create them by clicking on ‘Edit -> New -> DWORD Value’ and then set the value as shown below.

DefaultTTL = “80″ hex (or 128 decimal)
Specifies the default time to live (TTL) for TCP/IP packets. The default is 32.

EnablePMTUBHDetect = “0″
Specifies whether the stack will attempt to detect Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) routers that do not send back ICMP fragmentation-needed messages. The default is 0.

EnablePMTUDiscovery = “1″
Specifies whether the TCP/IP stack will attempt to perform path MTU discovery as specified in RFC 1191. The default is 1.

GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize = “7FFF” hex (or 32767 decimal)
Specifies the system maximum receive window size advertised by the TCP/IP stack.

TcpMaxDupAcks = “2″
Determines the number of duplicate ACKs that must be received for the same sequence number of sent data before “fast retransmit” is triggered.

SackOpts = “1″
Enables support for selective acknowledgements as documented by Request for Comment (RFC) 2018. Default is 0.

Tcp1323Opts = “1″
Controls RFC 1323 time stamps and window scaling options. Possible values are: “0″ = disable RFC 1323 options, “1″ = window scale enabled only, “2″ = time stamps enabled only and “3″ = both options enabled.

TcpWindowSize = “7FFF” hex (or 32767 decimal)
Specifies the receive window size advertised by the TCP/IP stack. If you have a latent network you can try increasing the value to 93440, 186880, or 372300.

Exit your registry and restart Windows for the changes to take effect.

If you don’t want to edit the registry, here’s a little TCP utility that is ideal…

Written By Unknown on Thursday, February 25, 2010 | 10:06 PM

The downloading speed of internet totally depends on the type of connection. Dial-up connection has 10-11 kbps downloading speed and broad-band connection nearly has 35kbps – 1MBps. So check out the connection which you are using for internet.

I had seen my friends using their cell phones for surfing internet on their PC. But the downloading speed is 4-7kbps. So it will take nearly 1 hour to download 7MB file.
You can check your downloading and uploading speed on http://www.speed.net.

Trick :

1. Go to Start > Run.

2. Type regedit and click OK.

3. A window will open containing two sub-windows. Left window indicates system folders and right window shows files in that folders.

4. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Windows >

Current Version> Internet Setting

5. When you click on “Internet Setting”, many files will be seen in right window.

6. Now in the right window, right click on the free space and

select New > DWORD Value.

7. A new file be created and rename it as MaxConnectionPerServer. Double click on it, a dialog will appear.Enter value as 99 if the base is Hexadecimal. Enter value as 153 if the base is Decimal. Press OK.

8. Again right click and create a new DWORD Value and rename it as

MaxConnectionPer1_0Server. Repeat step number 7.

9. Restart your PC and connect it to the internet. Download any stuff and you’ll
